Organizations and Markets

The Organizations and Markets program at Chicago GSB prepares students for academic careers in strategy and (macro) organizational behavior.  This area focuses on theory and research on organizations and markets, emphasizing training in the social networks of competition and cooperation, the ways in which actors organize to manage their variable interdependence within a social structure and the attitudinal and behavioral implications of the resulting social organization.

Applications are diverse, including how organizations operate, why they differ, how they emerge from prior organizations, how future growth depends on position in a structure of other organizations and how people survive and thrive as a function of their position in social organization.  Students take courses and attend seminars in the GSB as well as the Department of Sociology.

For details on the specifics on Organizations and Markets as a Dissertation Area and a Support Area, see General Examination Requirements - By Area in the PhD Program Guidebook (PDF).

To learn more about the research being done by current PhD students, please view a listing of proposals and defenses across dissertation areas.

For Organizations and Markets Faculty, please access the Faculty Directory to sort by academic area.

I have not had 'interviews with students' at the GSB; instead, I have had business conversations with potential colleagues. It has been a superb experience."
