Luncheon and Keynote Address
Keynote Speaker: Professor Richard H. Thaler, Ralph and Dorothy Keller Distinguished Service Professor of Behavioral Science and Economics, Chicago GSB
Modern research in psychology and economics has shown that human beings are imperfect decision makers. They make systematic mistakes, and suffer from self-control problems. Thaler and his collaborator Cass Sunstein from the University of Chicago Law School argue that it is possible for both the public and private sectors to help people make better decisions without restricting their freedom of choice. They do so creating better choice environments using the new concept of "choice architecture". They discuss applications in a wide variety of domains, from savings and investing to health care to marriage. For more details and see the rave reviews about their book, "Nudge: Improving Decisions about Health, Wealth and Happiness," visit http://www.nudges.org/.
