Keeping Current
Update Your M.B.A.
Great news! Beginning with the 19992000 academic year, any GSB
alumnus wishing to take a class at the school may do so for $1,000
a classapproximately one-third of the current tuition cost. If
you have regretted not taking a particular class or wish to experience
classes added since you graduated, this is your opportunity. Participation
is contingent upon available space and approval of the individual
professor. Contact the alumni office at (773) 702-7727 for more
information.
Midway Club at Gleacher Center
It has been very exciting to watch the progress of the new alumni
club facility construction on the fifth floor of Gleacher Center.
As I write this in early May, the space has been framed out, the
HVAC installed, and the electricians and plumbers are running
wires and piping. We have been working with Lohan and Associates
on the design of the space, and I, for one, cant wait to see
these plans realized. If you did not receive your membership brochure,
which includes a complimentary day pass for the Midway Club, call
our office at (773) 702-7727 for more information or to have one
sent to you.
Online Career Newsletter
I have terrific news for all alumni who are in a job search or
would simply like to check the market periodically. The online
Alumni Career Management Newsletter is now available to all alumnifree
of charge. This listing of positions by corporations and executive
search firms is a wonderful tool that is updated continuously.
It has long been accessible in hard copy by subscription; three
years ago, we accepted subscriptions to an electronic version.
Now any alumnus can access the electronic newsletter with an Email4Life
password. To request a password, which also provides a University
of Chicago email address, contact Jacinda Bauman at jacinda.bauman@gsb.uchicago.edu
or (773) 702-3954.
Unfortunately, weve had to discontinue the hard copy of the newsletter.
As the number of electronic subscriptions rose, the number of
hard copy subscribers fell below the minimum needed to print at
a reasonable price. As almost everyone now has access to the Interneteither
at home, work, or the local librarywe trust this will not create
a hardship. If it is absolutely impossible for you to access the
electronic version, we will be happy to accommodate requests for
a paper copy on an individual basis.
New Virtual Clubs
We are pleased to announce the formation of three special interest
virtual alumni clubs. They are the African American Alumni Club
headed by Richard Osei, 97; the Marketing Club; and the Expatriate
Club. Each will have chat rooms, bulletin boards, and distribution
lists. Alumni interested in joining should contact Nanci Carrothers
at nanci.carrothers@gsb.uchicago.edu or (773) 834-2037.
New Alumni Club Chapters
We are also pleased to announce the formation of five new international
clubs. Mariana Visintin, 99, formed the Buenos Aires club; Lisa
Hwang, 98, organized the Beijing club; Massimo Capocasa, 97,
spearheaded a group in Rome; Santiago Ruiz-Morales, 98, started
a chapter in Madrid; and Susan Moore, 93, is organizing alumni
in Auckland. In the United States, John Styers, 96, is working
to keep alumni connected in Kansas City; Tom Barton, 68, is leading
the new Cincinnati club; and Bryan Green, 97, is president of
the new club in North Carolina. To contact them, check our Web
page at www.gsb.uchicago.edu/alumni.shtml. You can use your Email4Life
password to find contact information through the GSB Peoplefinder
Directory, or you can call the alumni office at (773) 702-7727.
