Take Me Out to the Ball Game
“On May 27, after a festive tailgate party, about 40 alumni and friends enjoyed a day in the sun at the San Francisco Giants’ fabulous new baseball stadium, Pacific Bell Park,” said Jeff Ricker, ’81, one of the event’s organizers. The event was co-organized by Kathy Thompson, ’84. For more information on future events, contact Jeff Weinberger at jweinberger@gsbalum.uchicago.edu.

CEO Roundtable
Eight years in the running, the CEO Roundtable has 55 members who are CEOs, presidents, owners, and other high-level executives who graduated from the GSB. Public, private, large, and small companies from many industry groups are represented. The group meets monthly at Gleacher Center and features private discussions with experts from various fields. The interactive meetings run from 6 to 8 p.m. and include dinner and drinks. Dues are $60 per year to cover meeting and communication costs. For more information, contact coordinator Alexander “Sandy” Weissent, ’76, at 312.751.2153. Also, due to growing member interest, the CEO Roundtable has founded a subgroup on e-commerce. Interested alumni should contact Weissent.

Blueprint for Barcelona
The recently founded Barcelona club reports steady growth of the alumni community in Barcelona, especially since the start of the Executive M.B.A. Program there. E-commerce start-ups, in particular, have been popular among alumni settling in the area after graduation. On June 29, alumni gathered for dinner at the Casa Calvet, near the Barcelona campus. The dinner included a brainstorming session during which members considered the challenges facing the alumni club regarding the visibility of the GSB and its alumni in Barcelona and throughout Europe. In addition, members numbered among their objectives providing for continuing learning and extending networks. One organizer, Peter Simons, IXP-3 (’98), said, “We are lucky to be based in Barcelona, because we can use the GSB campus as our clubhouse. The relationship with the GSB here in Barcelona is an ideal win-win situation, both for the [GSB] and its alumni.” A follow-up meeting is planned for the fall.

Students, prospective students, and Chicago-area alumnae gathered at Gleacher Center in May to spend the day “Creating a Brand Called You.” This second annual Women’s Workshop, jointly sponsored by the GSB and Chicago Women in Business student group, focused on practical knowledge and creative ideas that women can use to be happier and more successful in business. In her keynote address, former U.S. secretary of labor Lynn Martin talked about opportunities and challenges for women in business. Other speakers included international management coach Maureen McCarthy and executive search specialist Patricia Coleman.--Jennifer Vanasco
