MBA/Master’s in East Asia Studies

The study of East Asia at the University of Chicago has a long tradition, dating back to the turn of the century when scholars here pioneered the study of East Asian religions and the Japanese and Chinese languages. Since then, East Asian Studies at the university has continued to flourish and diversify, the most recent addition being a Korean Studies program.

This joint MBA/AM program requires successful completion of an integrated master’s thesis and 28 courses; 13 of these courses are in the East Asian Studies area.

Business Foundations (3 courses)
Business Breadth (4 courses)
General Management (2 courses)
Business Electives (5 courses)

East Asian Area Studies Course Requirements

  • Core Curriculum (7 courses)

    Students select courses with substantive East Asian content from the social sciences public policy, or law. Students should consult with faculty about appropriate courses.

  • Language Study (6 courses)

    The study of an East Asian language for six consecutive quarters is required, though students may satisfy all or part of this requirement through examination. Students excused from language courses may take additional electives.
