Event Details
This is the inaugural meeting for the Innovation Roundtable. The objective of the Innovation Roundtable is the free exchange of ideas, theories, methodologies, and best practices between individuals that want to identify, develop and commercialize new products and services that far surpass the current value proposition in the marketplace. This Roundtable should interest anyone in business, regardless of industry, company, function, job position, experience or education. Each month we will have a guest speaker that can share innovative concepts, supporting evidence, and success stories. The goal is that attendees immediate apply this new learning to their business and/or workplace (or what is the point?).

Speaker Profiles:

Thomas Stat
Associate Director, IDEO

Tom is associate director of IDEO's Chicago office where he acts as senior client liaison for major clients and helps directs new business efforts across all IDEO practice areas globally. In his business development efforts, Tom helps identify new project opportunities, launch projects and nurture and sustain great client relationships by marrying interesting and challenging projects with the passions and capabilities of IDEO's professional staff.

Tom has a multidisciplined background that includes aerospace engineering studies at Purdue University, a Bachelor of Science in Social Psychology from Boston University, a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Bachelor of Architecture from the Rhode Island School of Design, and executive MBA studies at Stanford University.

Tom has been involved in a wide range of innovation initiatives for IDEO clients including Motorola, DaimlerChrysler, Baxter, Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS), Starbucks, Eli Lilly, McDonalds, American Express and Bayer, among many others. In addition to acting as a senior client liaison, Tom is a frequent speaker at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, the University of Chicago, DePaul University and at a variety of global industry, trade and company sponsored conferences.

Prior to joining IDEO, Tom provided marketing and communication strategy, business development, design and management expertise to a wide range of service businesses including a number of international architectural design firms. He has provided strategic planning, business factors and communication consulting to a variety of multi-national companies, on projects as diverse as new service and product launches, new identity roll-outs, real estate consulting and commercial building design, including corporate headquarters, international airports, hospitals, schools, and cultural facilities in the US, Asia, and the Middle East. While providing strategic consulting services to a joint venture between a large American architectural firm and a multi-national Japanese infrastructure engineering company, Tom resided in Osaka, Japan.

In his spare time, Tom has climbed Mount Fuji, communed with wild monkeys in Indonesia, renovated a 106-year-old house, almost mastered the 8 home theater remote controls he proudly covets, and now tinkers with a 53 year old Chevy pick-up truck. He resides with his wife and two daughters in Evanston, Illinois.
